Costs of Parkinson’s Disease -Management of Chronic Illness.
PD is costly to private and public medical insurance as well as to families and to communities. Advocates in the US estimate that annual costs for medical care, disability, and work absenses are $25B...$6B in direct medical cost.
Drivers of costs:
Costs can be separated into two categories
Treatment of continuous progressive debilitating symptoms
Treatment of co-morbidities and complications of disease
We cannot yet prevent the former very effectively but we can minimize the latter
the next slides illustrate the Costs involved
