Specialty Physician Care--
PDF Access Survey--
Physician services are generally well covered by insurance or medicare for respondents to our donor survey. In response to survey questions concerning health insurance or Medicare coverage, of the nearly 3,000 responses to the PDF Access survey, almost nine in 10 said they had received some reimbursement (total or partial) for their doctor care.
Seven in 10 of the respondents (69 percent) said that they had been treated for their PD in the past year by a general neurologist and five in 10 (50 percent) said that they had seen a primary care physician (some, obviously, were seeing both). However, only about one-third (35 percent) said they had been treated by a movement disorders or Parkinson’s specialist.
Only three percent of respondents had surgical care for Parkinson’s during the previous year but for almost all of these (90 percent) generally high cost treatments, the bill was paid in whole or in part by health insurance or Medicare.
