Public Health Action Plan For PD – Strategy -
Action Research Process.
Building on our public policy success at promoting PD research, our GOAL is to deliver dividends from scientific advances to improve the health of the population.
Strategy – in progress -
We have embarked on a (5 step) strategy is to develop a PH action plan.
1. Define Concept – Arthritis Example, cancer
We are drawing on the experience of two examples of interagency disease specific public heallth programs.
One is the National Arthritis Action Plan, joint program of the CDC, the arthritis foundation and ASTHO (state health depts)
The National Cancer Institute along with the Agency for Healthcare Research & Quality (AHRQ) provides a model for promoting quality care. The Quality of cancer care committee (QCCC) is a government wide initiative to measure and improve health outcomes
2. Compile Information on Needs --
Conduct research presented later to demonstrate need and benefit of PH interventions
3. Orchestrate PD Organizations to Lead --
Based on experience that we have accomplished the most when we have worked together, the cooperation and support from all PD organizations has been obtained.
4. Define R&D Agenda – Workshop --
In order to flesh out the agenda and build support and recognition for the PH agenda, a workshop is being planned. The steering committee for the workshop includes leading academics and representatives from three government agencies.
5. Create Public Private Partnership --
The result we hope to achieve is a public private partnership to implement a public health action plan designed to improve access to quality care for PD.
